Jane’s Top Tips for Mastering Boat Pose (Navasana)

NAVASANA ~ Boat pose

Are you doing Navasana, also known as boat pose, in your yoga practice?

If you've reached the stage where you are extending your legs straight, here's a game-changing tip to make the pose feel more effortless:

Press your big toe mounts together!!

Why?

By doing this, you ignite the strength in your legs, making them solid and weightless. Remember that relaxed legs are heavy legs.

Think of it as a switch that activates not just your core muscles and hip flexors but also engages the whole body. This unified effort helps you stay strong, steady and more at ease in the pose.

Are you still navigating your way to the full pose?

That's fine too, of course! Yoga is about the journey, not the end goal.

Here are some modifications to help you build up to full Navasana:

- Legs straight but holding the back of the thighs. This way, you're still working towards your goal with a supportive grip.

- Bend the knees with shins parallel to the ground, either holding the back of the thighs or not. Another great step that helps you grow into the pose.

- The variation above with one foot on the ground. This is a gentle way to start and you'll be amazed at how quickly you will progress.

Remember there are always modifications for each pose.

Yoga is for EVERY BODY and for EVERYONE!! Listen to your body, do what is right for you and honor the stage where you are at.

And most importantly ENJOY the practice!

Namaste,

Jane
